Iron Commando – The Forgotten SNES Brawler Is Back
Originally released only in Japan in 1995 and never officially available in Europe – Piko Interactive changed that. Iron Commando is now available as a PAL cartridge in box, finally giving your SNES collection the love it deserves. If you're into Final Fight or Streets of Rage, this one is right up your alley.
The Story
Year 20XX: The world is still reeling from a world war. Into the chaos drops a radioactive meteorite – and the ruthless terrorist organisation G.H.O.S.T. wants to get their hands on it. You're here to stop them. Choose your fighter: Jake, the tough-as-nails soldier, or Chang Li, the lightning-fast martial arts master. Team up with a friend and make G.H.O.S.T.'s day twice as miserable.
Gameplay – What Makes Iron Commando Special
10 levels, no rest: Iron Commando throws you into the action from the very first second. Punks, gunfighters, knights, bizarre creatures – the enemy variety genuinely surprises. The weapon arsenal is massive: pistols, shotguns, machine guns, knives, baseball bats, grenades. Add in well-placed traps and the difficulty cranks up even further.
Playing solo: This game is brutal. No health recovery between levels, enemies love to attack from behind, and the difficulty is genuinely punishing. In two-player co-op it runs much smoother – that's when the brawling really shines.
Vehicle Stages: The Standout Feature
What sets Iron Commando apart from the crowd: vehicle sections on a jeep, motorcycle and mine cart. These stages perfectly break up the pacing and offer variety you rarely find in other beat-em-ups.
Visuals & Sound
For a SNES title from 1995, Iron Commando holds up well: large, detailed sprites, vibrant character designs and a high-energy soundtrack that perfectly fits the brawler vibe.
