What makes it special?

This official collaboration between 8BitDo, Xbox and Rare celebrates the studio founded in 1985. Blue-and-gold artwork, nods to classic Rare games and a gold-coloured zinc-alloy D-pad create a collector feel. Two rear paddles, Hall Effect sticks and triggers, impulse feedback and three profiles add modern controls.

Connection and compatibility

The key difference from the ordinary 3-mode model: Rare 40th connects wirelessly over 2.4 GHz to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Windows supports 2.4 GHz or USB, while Apple/Android use Bluetooth. The included dock charges and reconnects automatically when the pad is removed.

Good to know

The 1,000 mAh battery is rated for up to 20 hours. A 3.5 mm headset jack and Ultimate Software X are included, along with two special themed stick caps.

In the box

Controller, charging dock, 2.4 GHz adapter, two stick caps, USB cable and manual.
