The RGB Blaster from Krikzz Everdrives is the ultimate video upgrade for your beloved Famicom console. This ingenious little adapter unlocks stunning RGB video quality from your classic Nintendo system, delivering pixel-perfect visuals that will make your retro gaming sessions truly shine. Whether you're revisiting childhood favorites or discovering hidden gems, the RGB Blaster ensures you're seeing every sprite and background tile in glorious clarity.
What makes the RGB Blaster special is its direct connection to your Famicom's Picture Processing Unit (PPU). The pixels flow synchronously with zero lag, meaning you get authentic, lag-free gameplay with dramatically improved image quality. Setup is straightforward—simply connect the adapter and use a Genesis Mini DIN 9 cable (sold separately) to hook up to your RGB-capable display via SCART. You can even customize color palettes using the blastcfg tool to match your personal preferences or recreate specific CRT characteristics.
Important Compatibility Information
Before ordering, please note that the RGB Blaster has specific compatibility requirements. It works exclusively with original NTSC Famicom consoles and is not compatible with all PPU revisions. The device doesn't work well with consoles based on PPU RP2C02B and RP2C02D-0, or older PPU revisions prior to RP2C02D. We recommend checking your console's PPU version before purchasing—you can find PPU variant information at nesdev.org.
The RGB Blaster requires an original NTSC PPU running at stock frequency and won't function with cloned or heavily modded systems. Additionally, there's no composite video output—only RGB—so ensure your display supports RGB input via SCART. When using original cartridges, you may occasionally need to press reset after power-on, though this issue is eliminated when using flashcarts. This happens because some games immediately write to the PPU at startup, while the RGB Blaster needs a few extra milliseconds to initialize.
