The Genesis version you were never allowed to play – until now. Jim Power: The Lost Dimension was fully developed in the 90s but never officially released. Piko Interactive rescued this lost cartridge and finally brought it to shelves.
- Unique cult status: Decades-unreleased Genesis version – now officially available
- 3 gameplay modes: Side-scrolling platformer, top-down shooter & horizontal shoot-em-up
- Soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck (Turrican legend)
- Brutal difficulty – considered one of the hardest games ever made
Jim Power: The Lost Dimension – The Genesis Version That Waited 30 Years for You
Jim Power: The Lost Dimension is one of the most curious finds in retro gaming history: the Genesis version was fully developed in the early 90s but got cancelled just before release – and vanished for decades. In 2021, Piko Interactive dug up the lost version, crowdfunded its final completion, and brought it to market for the first time ever as a physical cartridge. A genuine piece of gaming history.
The Story
Intergalactic soldier Jim Power faces his toughest mission yet: the evil alien guardian Vaprak wants to destroy Earth – the only planet standing between him and the mysterious 5th dimension. If he succeeds, his kind will flood the entire galaxy. You are Jim Power. You are the last hope.
Gameplay – Three Modes, Plenty of Chaos
What makes Jim Power so special (and infamous) is its constant style-switching. You fight through side-scrolling platform levels à la Turrican, then suddenly get thrown into a top-down shooter, and then horizontal shoot-em-up sections on top of that. Variety is guaranteed – relaxation is not.
- Upgradeable blaster, jetpack and spaceship sections
- Collect keys to progress through levels
- Three difficulty levels – all of them merciless
- Heavy parallax scrolling for impressive depth effects
Difficulty – No Joke
Jim Power is considered by hardcore gamers to be one of the hardest games ever made. Levels are packed with enemies, hitboxes are quirky, and mistakes are punished instantly. If you found Turrican or Contra too easy: welcome home. Everyone else: grit your teeth and good luck.
The Soundtrack
Composed by Chris Hülsbeck – the man behind the iconic Turrican soundtracks. The rock-driven score fits the frantic gameplay perfectly and is a highlight of the 16-bit era all by itself.
Why This Version Is Special
The Genesis version differs in small graphical details from the SNES release and carries the alternate title Jim Power: The Arcade Game. For years, only a leaked ROM prototype with placeholder sound effects from Mega Turrican existed. Piko Interactive completed the version and gave it a full soundtrack. This is the only way to experience this piece of gaming history officially and on real hardware.
