Thanks to its true dual-screen design with 640x480 resolution per display, compatible games feel exactly the way they were meant to be played. Whether RPGs, platformers, or strategy classics – the gameplay remains familiar and direct. If you grew up with the original devices, you’ll immediately notice the difference – especially the sharper visuals compared to back then.

Of course, other emulators also run on this compact Android handheld, but it’s clear what it was primarily designed for: authentic two-screen retro gaming.

Performance-wise, the RG DS handles all classic computer and console systems up to and including PSX and NDS reliably. However, Anbernic did not equip it with a high-end processor – likely to keep the price accessible. As a result, it does not perform well with 3DS titles. For NDS gaming, though, performance is right where it needs to be.

Thanks to modern Android 14, you can also play Android games and use apps without issues – a major advantage over many Linux-based retro handhelds.
As usual, there are custom Firmwares out there that improve the emulation quality a lot. We suggest to use Rocknix or GammaOS.
