Your homebrew game deserves a real cartridge — and now it can have one.
The DragonDrive is DragonBox Shop's very own 4MB flash cartridge for the Sega MegaDrive and Genesis. Whether you're developing your first homebrew title, working on a ROM hack, or creating a reproduction cartridge, the DragonDrive gives you a reliable, reusable, and professionally made platform to bring your project to life.
Once you've flashed your ROM onto it, the DragonDrive behaves exactly like an original game cartridge. Just pop it into your console, flip the switch, and you're playing — no loading screens, no setup, no compromises.
Built for Developers and Makers
The DragonDrive can be written to multiple times, so you can iterate freely as your project evolves. It supports game ROMs up to 4MB in size, which covers the vast majority of MegaDrive titles. Please note that this version does not include SRAM battery backup support, meaning save-game functionality via battery isn't available — but if you need that, we also offer a version with SRAM support.
Level Shifters: The Smarter Choice
One of the key things that sets the DragonDrive apart from other flash carts like the Krikzz FlashKit Cart MD is the use of proper level shifters instead of simple resistors. An article by db-electronics outlines why 3.3V flash chips without proper level shifting can potentially stress your console's hardware over time. We took that seriously — our PCB is designed with dedicated level shifters to ensure clean, safe signal conversion. It costs a bit more to do it right, but we think your console is worth it.
What You Need to Get Started
This listing is for the PCB only. To flash it, you'll need a Krikzz FlashKit Cart Programmer. Important: Krikzz's standard software does not support the memory chip used in the DragonDrive — you'll need to use our custom flasher software instead. A Linux-compilable version is available via the notaz GitWeb repository, and a ready-to-use Windows version can be downloaded directly from this product page. If you'd prefer a shell to house the PCB, we sell those separately. And if you'd rather skip the flashing altogether, we also offer a complete flash service — just send us your ROM.
