Game Gear Ultimate Rebuild Pack – Technically brand new, by RetroSix
Got an old Game Gear gathering dust that deserves better? This pack gives you everything you need to completely renew it from the inside out. Five core components from RetroSix, perfectly matched to each other – and when you're done, you've got a technically brand-new Game Gear in your (old or new) shell.
What you still need from your old Game Gear: The ICs (ASIC, MPU), the EXT port, and a shell. Since the CleanAmp Duo comes with two speakers and the CleanScreen V4 uses a larger viewing area, it's highly recommended to also grab a new RetroSix shell that already comes with dual speaker cutouts.
Important: This is a DIY pack – you need to desolder and re-solder the ICs onto the new mainboard, solder the cartridge slot in place, and assemble everything into the shell. Basic soldering skills are required.
The included components in detail
1. RetroSix RePCB – Brand-New Motherboard (2-ASIC)
A complete remake of the original Game Gear motherboard for all VA0 models with two ASICs. The board comes fully populated – except for the ASIC, MPU, cartridge slot and EXT port, which you transplant from your old unit. Highlights of the new board:
- Reset button for quick in-game resets
- Japan/English toggle switch, accessible from the battery compartment
- Onboard USB-C test power and headphone output for testing before final assembly
- Improved audio quality via rerouted traces and a new amp and audio filter circuit
- Out-of-reset LED and power-good LED for easy debugging
- Supports the original crystal or a new SMD crystal
- New PCB layout for cleaner power rails and less noise
- Pre-made CleanScreen ribbons for solder-free screen installation
Compatibility: For VA0 Game Gear consoles with two ASICs. The original LCD is not compatible with the RePCB; use the CleanScreen V4 included in this pack.
2. RetroSix CleanAmp Duo – Stereo Audio Board
The original Game Gear audio board sounds thin and quiet. The CleanAmp Duo is a Class D amplifier that brings back the full tonal range – deep bass, crisp highs, everything you never heard before. Over 200% louder than the original, without distortion.
- Switchable between mono (1 speaker) and true stereo (2 speakers, bridge the STEREO pad)

Note: For true stereo you need a shell with dual speaker cutouts – RetroSix shells come with this out of the box.
3. RetroSix GameSlot Kit – New Cartridge Slot
The world's first serviceable cartridge slot for the Game Gear. Gold-plated springs and contacts ensure reliable game reads, and when pins eventually get dirty or flat – just remove, clean, and re-insert. No resoldering, no replacement needed.

4. RetroSix CleanJuice AA USB-C Pack – Power Board with USB-C
Say goodbye to the old DC barrel connector. The CleanJuice AA USB-C Pack replaces the original power board and adds a modern USB-C charging port – charge your rechargeable AA batteries directly inside the console without removing them. Any standard USB-C cable works, and reverse charging from your phone is also supported.

5. RetroSix CleanScreen Kit V4 – HD IPS Display
