The VGA Output Module for the Scalable Video Switch (SVS) – your universal signal output via HD-15 for all common analog video formats, including native RetroTINK 4K integration.
- Output formats: RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB (Sync on Green), YPbPr (Component), S-Video, Composite
- Connector: HD-15 (VGA port)
- RetroTINK 4K: Serial communication for automatic profile loading
- Optional: Toslink digital audio with separate Toslink module
SVS VGA Output Module – One Output for Everything
Got a Scalable Video Switch and want the most flexible output possible? The VGA Output Module is arguably the smartest choice. Via its HD-15 port (classic VGA connector), this module outputs far more than just VGA in the traditional sense – it covers virtually every analog video standard you'll ever need in retro gaming.
Supported Output Formats
The module handles a wide range of analog signal formats:
- RGBHV – classic VGA signal, passed through directly or derived from RGBS/RGsB
- RGBS – RGB with separate composite sync, typical for many retro consoles
- RGsB – Sync on Green, as expected by e.g. PS2 and many professional monitors
- YPbPr – Component Video, via adapter cable from the HD-15 port
- S-Video – on the Green and Red pins
- Composite Video – on the Green pin
Serial Integration: RetroTINK 4K
The standout feature for RetroTINK 4K users: pins 12 and 15 of the HD-15 port carry a serial data connection. This means the SVS can automatically load the correct profile in your RetroTINK 4K when switching inputs – no button presses needed. According to the official FAQ, the VGA Output Module is the recommended choice for the RetroTINK 4K, as it supports all signal formats through its VGA port and fully supports serial communication.
For the OSSC Classic or OSSC Pro, the VGA module is also a very convenient option, as these devices accept RGB and Component via VGA adapters. For the RetroTINK 5X Pro, however, you'll need multiple output modules for full functionality, since the 5X doesn't support mixed signal formats on its inputs – something to keep in mind.
Digital Audio: Toslink Optional Add-on
With the optional Toslink Output Module, you can also output digital audio through the VGA Output Module. This must be purchased separately but can be added at any time.
Important: Passthrough Only – No Conversion
The SVS – and therefore this module – operates as a pure passthrough switch. There is no signal conversion: if you feed in RGB, you get RGB out. Automatic transcoding from RGB to YPbPr or vice versa does not happen. If you need that, check out the separate transcoder modules.
