RetroSix CleanJuice AA USB-C Pack – The Ultimate Power Upgrade for Your Sega Game Gear
You already know the problem: the original Sega Game Gear power board is notoriously unreliable, barely keeping up even on a stock console – and once you add mods like the CleanScreen or CleanAmp, it really starts to struggle. The CleanJuice AA USB-C Pack by RetroSix throws out the old power board entirely and replaces it with a clean, modern PCB featuring ultra-low ripple, USB-C charging, and comprehensive protection circuitry. And the best part: it's a complete drop-in, no soldering, no cutting.
The Concept
Instead of relying on proprietary LiPo packs (which might become unavailable down the road), the CleanJuice AA uses standard off-the-shelf NiMH AA batteries – 6 cells at 2,500 mAh each. They charge in-console, you can buy them anywhere, and they keep your Game Gear future-proof for decades to come. A full charge gives you up to 24 hours of gameplay on a stock system (at low brightness and volume).
USB-C Instead of the Old DC Jack
The original DC input is replaced by a USB-C port. Charge using any USB-C-to-C or USB-C-to-A cable and charger. If your smartphone supports Power Share, you can even top up your Game Gear on the go directly from your phone – no wall adapter needed.
Clean, Safe, Stable Power
The new power board delivers ultra-low ripple and protects your console with a full suite of safety features:
- Over- and under-voltage protection
- Over- and under-current protection
- Thermal shutdown
- Safe charging circuit: 6× 2,500 mAh NiMH AAs charged at a steady 600 mA – fully charged in just under 6 hours
Mod-Friendly & Future-Proof
The CleanJuice AA is built with modded Game Gear consoles in mind. It features a ribbon connector for the CleanScreen V4, enabling upgrades and apps via the CleanJuice USB-C port. And since NiMH AAs are standard off-the-shelf cells, you'll never have to worry about replacement batteries going out of production.
Installation
Installation is genuinely as easy as it sounds: open the console (screwdriver only), remove the old power board, drop in the CleanJuice AA – done. No cutting, no soldering. Only original shells may require minor adjustments to the battery compartment; RetroSix shells fit without any modification.
