R-TYPE DX Collector's Edition Vinyl – The Battle Against the Bydo Empire on Record
The R-9A Arrowhead and the R-9C War-Head versus the Bydo Empire – an epic saga told across many iterations. Now you can spin the legendary Game Boy sounds on a real vinyl record: 33 tracks across two sides, capturing the spirit of the arcade originals through the characteristic lo-fi sound of handheld hardware. This is no simple repressing – it's a love letter to an era.
The Plasma Vinyl – Purple and Textured
The record itself is a showpiece: as a Plasma Music Vinyl, it comes in a deep purple with a visible surface texture – hence the name. It looks stunning on the turntable before you even drop the needle.
What's on It
Side A – R-TYPE DX: Music Encore Soundtrack (19 Tracks)
The Music Encore side features the newly arranged soundtrack by WASi303, a specialist in retro game sound who reimagined the original arcade themes using authentic handheld hardware audio. The original Game Boy versions of R-Type and R-Type II had to share tracks across multiple stages – entire levels played to the same music. Music Encore fixes that by giving every stage its own dedicated track, crafted to sound as if it could have existed back in 1999. Composed by Masato Ishizaki and Masahiko Ishida, GB remix by WASi303.
Side B – R-TYPE DX: BGM Original Soundtrack (14 Tracks)
The B-side is the original Game Boy soundtrack: 6 tracks from R-TYPE (composed by Masato Ishizaki, GB arrangement by David Whittaker) and 8 tracks from R-TYPE II (composed by Masahiko Ishida, GB arrangement by David Whittaker). David Whittaker – a true legend of early video game music, who produced for countless platforms throughout the 80s and early 90s – arranged both soundtracks for the Game Boy, squeezing the maximum out of the limited audio channels.

The Artwork – Paul „OTAKING" Johnson
The cover and all visual design is by Paul „OTAKING" Johnson, an English anime animator and 2D artist celebrated for his authentic recreation of late-80s/early-90s Japanese animation style. Johnson has a long history with R-TYPE – he produced a widely praised anime short based on the game back in 2016 – so his artwork on this vinyl is genuine enthusiasm, not a generic commission.
The Exclusive Interview
Included is a printed exclusive interview with producer Nobuhiro Yoshikawa – a genuine collector's item for anyone who wants to dive deeper into the story behind the sounds.
