The evil alien Vaprak has his sights set on Earth – and only Special Agent Jim Power can stop him. Vaprak wants to open an interdimensional vortex to the fifth dimension, whose mutating effect would destroy all organic life. You step into the shoes of the last hope, infiltrate enemy lines, and hunt the villain all the way to his fortress.

The Story Behind the NES Port

Jim Power: The Lost Dimension originally launched in 1993 for the SNES. In 2021, Piko Interactive released this completely new NES port – not a cheap downgrade, but a genuine ground-up development for 8-bit hardware, crafted by NES homebrew legend Shiru. The result is impressive: parallax scrolling, smooth animations, and a cinematic intro that pulls you straight into Jim Power's world.

Gameplay: More Than Just a Platformer

Jim Power is no ordinary run-and-gun. The game blends several gameplay modes:

• Side-scrolling platformer: Jump, shoot, dodge enemies – classic and tight
• Shoot-em-up levels with jetpack: Jim fires up his jet pack for Gradius-style scrolling shooter sections
• Massive boss fights at the end of each level – spectacular and demanding
• Weapon upgrades: Collect power-ups and beef up your arsenal
• Hidden areas and secrets for maximum replayability

The NES version has one key advantage over the original: there is finally a health bar – in the original SNES version, a single hit means instant death. That makes Jim Power on NES more approachable, though by no means easy. Enemy patterns still need to be memorized, and some waiting sections (energy balls, slow platforms) can test your patience.

The NES version pushes the hardware to its limits: multi-layer parallax scrolling, vibrant 8-bit visuals, and a dynamic soundtrack make Jim Power one of the most technically impressive NES homebrews ever made. If you love the Ninja Gaiden era, you'll adore the cinematic intro.
