Stone Protectors – SNES PAL Boxed Version (Piko Interactive)
Five dudes. Five magic stones. Endless enemies to pummel. Stone Protectors is the wild beat 'em up classic from 1994, developed by Eurocom and originally published by Kemco – now officially re-released by Piko Interactive as a full PAL Boxed Version for European SNES consoles.
The Story
They used to call themselves the Rock Defectors – five sloppy kids playing loud, annoying music to zero fans. Then they discover five glowing Power Stones and fasten them to their chests. Suddenly they are the Stone Protectors: celebrated rock stars with superpowers and a serious threat to the evil Zok and his Saurian army. The Crystal Palace kingdom of Mythrandir is under siege – and only you can save it.
Gameplay
Classic side-scrolling beat 'em up action: pick one of five characters and brawl your way through 10 levels, taking out waves of enemies and facing off against bosses. Each of the five troll heroes comes with their own moves and special attacks – from heavy melee brawlers to ranged weapon users. Choosing between Clifford, Cornelius, Chester, Maxwell or Angus makes a real difference to how the game feels.
A note for genre veterans: Stone Protectors isn't a Streets of Rage killer – the characters can feel a bit sluggish and the hitboxes take some getting used to. But if you love the chaotic 90s charm of TMNT-style brawlers and want a couch co-op session, this one delivers.
