Croc 2: 25th Anniversary Edition – the iconic GBC platformer, re-released
In 2001, Croc 2 hit the Game Boy Color – developed by Natsume, based on the PS1 hit by Argonaut. Now, 25 years later, ModRetro brings the bright-green croc back on real plastic. No ROM downloads, no emulator fiddling: you plug in the cartridge and play. Just like it should be.
The Story
Croc receives a message in a bottle from his mother – and immediately sets off to find her. What starts as a family mission quickly becomes a showdown: Baron Dante has been magically resurrected by his evil Dantinis and is once again causing havoc for the Gobbos and everyone else. Croc must navigate four worlds (Sailor Village, Cossack Village, Caveman Village, Inca Village) each with three levels plus a Guardian level, solve puzzles, track down hidden Gobbos, and ultimately stop the Baron once and for all.
Gameplay
The game uses a faux-3D top-down perspective – similar to Zelda: Link's Awakening. Croc can run, jump, long-jump, tail-whip, and stomp. Levels are packed with crystals, hidden Gobbos, puzzles, and tough enemies. If you want to collect everything, you'll need patience and a sharp eye – secrets are well hidden.
What ModRetro improved
- Auto-Save: No more writing down passwords. Just put the game down and pick it up later.
- Max Lives option: Activate unlimited lives and focus fully on exploring – or stick with Classic mode for that authentic retro challenge.
- Revised control scheme: Controls feel noticeably snappier on the Chromatic than on the original GBC.
Compatibility
The cartridge runs on the ModRetro Chromatic, the original Game Boy Color, and the Analogue Pocket. Important: you need compatible hardware – the cartridge alone won't work by itself.
The Collector's Package
ModRetro really delivers here. Included in the package:
- Physical GBC cartridge
- Premium collector's box with full-color printing
- Full-color instruction booklet
- Exclusive Croc charm for your Chromatic
