The brain of your SVS – nothing works without this module

Anyone building a Scalable Video Switch (SVS) cannot do without the Control Module: it is the mandatory base module for every SVS build. Without it, no functional switch is possible – no matter how many input or output modules you own. The Control Module handles all switching logic and coordinates every connected input and output module.

What does the Control Module do?

Extensive input & output capacity

The Control Module supports up to 32 inputs in its base configuration – and is expandable to 248 inputs with the upcoming Expansion Modules. Add up to 6 outputs in any combination of SCART, Component, VGA and Composite/S-Video. Build the switch that fits your exact setup.

Auto-switching via sync detection

The SVS automatically detects which console is powered on and switches to the correct input without any manual interaction. Just turn on your console and the switch does the rest.

IR receiver & IR blaster for automatic scaler control

The Control Module features a built-in infrared receiver for recording IR codes and manual switching via the optional IR remote accessory. The 3.5mm IR blaster port plays back recorded IR codes – allowing the SVS to automatically load the correct profile on your scaler on a per-input basis, with direct integration for the RetroTink 4K. Other scalers like the RetroTink 5x, OSSC and OSSC Pro are also supported via IR blaster.

SD card, USB-C & manual button

The SD card slot stores IR codes and configuration settings for easy editing. USB-C handles power delivery (min. 5V / 1.5A recommended), firmware updates and serial communication with your PC. A manual button on the front allows direct input switching, and a status LED provides feedback during IR programming.

A note on signal quality

At very high resolutions (1080p, 720p), a slight low-pass filter effect can accumulate across multiple stacked modules. For classic retro resolutions like 240p and 480i, this is a complete non-issue – even at the maximum number of modules. 480p is only marginally affected. If you have 1080p sources, simply place those modules close to the Control Module and you're good to go.
